How To Create An Effortless Gallery Wall

I often get asked how I decided to lay out the pictures in my home. I have four gallery walls in my home and I approached them each differently but they all work, in my humble opinion.

  1. Keep It Simple With The Same Colour Frames

The best way to achieve a cohesive design is to limit the colours and themes. An easy way to do this is to keep the colour and materials of the frames the same.

In my hallway, all of the frames are black wooden frames, which also ties in with the black frames of the mirrors I have in the hallway and top of the stairs.

  1. Rule of 3

The Rule if 3 is something that comes up in almost every aspect of interior design, and it just makes your life so much easier. When it comes to your prints in your picture frames, keep to a handful of colours, ideally 3.

You have some flexibility in terms of the varying shades of those colours and you also have some flexibility in terms of the varying shades of those colours.

For instance, you can have multiple shades of green, multiple shades of purple and multiple shades of pink if you want. Alternatively, you can stick to the same shade of your 3 colours if you find that easier.

  1. Keep To A Theme

You can of course go off peace and have different types of picture frames made from different materials and different colours with different types of prints… the list goes on.

But I do find that if you go off peace and have a mix of different colours and textures, then it is still good to keep to a theme. Just said that you have something that is still cohesive and tells a story.

For instance we have an assortment of different maps in one corner of our house and I think it works really well even though the frames are different colours and different materials.

  1. Just Copy It!

If you were still lacking confidence in putting together your own design for a gallery wall, then this is probably the best tip for you. There is a retailer called the poster store, which I will link here.

They have a huge range of prints and frames, as well as a section of their website that is entirely dedicated to inspiration where they have various different types of layouts in different types of rooms with different types of furniture so that you can find something suitable for exactly what you’re after. So if you want something for above a sofa or above a bed or going up your staircase, they have a variety of different arrangements with all of the products listed so that you can just add them straight to your basket if you so wish. You can also just switch out the prints within that list if there are other ones that you would prefer elsewhere on the website. This is what I did for above my sofa and also in my bedroom above my dressing table. It made things so much easier, when I knew I had a big expense of wall to fill and didn’t have much time to plan or think much about it.

I hope that gives you some ideas and confidence with assembling your own gallery in your home.
